One of those companies is Kounis Group, a WA-based business which has been engaged to support the Gorgon Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) optimisation works.
At their facilities in Forrestdale, WA, Kounis Group is designing and manufacturing four custom-built substations for the project.
The substations will provide electrical supply and communications to new surface infrastructure and sub-surface equipment, which is being installed on Barrow Island to support the optimisation of the CCS system
Kounis Group has a team of more than 100 people working on the Chevron substations, with jobs ranging from electricians to pest control technicians.
Managing Director David Kounis said the company’s work with Chevron demonstrated an ongoing partnership between global operations and WA businesses.

While having already stored more than 12 million tonnes of greenhouse gas since starting up in 2019, Gorgon CCS has faced challenges with the system’s pressure management.
The optimisation works which are currently underway will enable long-term improved and reliable performance for its expected 40-year life.
